About Us

Not Just Another Tackle Shop

Fishing tackle is our passion, but Fish Heads provides our friends with much more than the expected Bait-&-Tackle shop experience.  The Fish Heads brick-&-mortar store is located on the grounds of Sailfish Marina in Stuart, FL, and while arguably the best stocked saltwater tackle store you will experience, Fish Heads also offers a wide range of boating and marine supplies, snacks and drinks, and a pretty decent beer selection.

Fish Heads has become a gathering spot for friends to share fishing stories.  Fish Heads has become the starting point for fishing trips.  Fish Heads has become a place to grab a snack and drink before watching the charter boats tie up and clean their catch.  Fish Heads has become a place to crack open a cold beer after a long day spent on the water.  Fish Heads has become the place… and nothing makes us happier than hearing our friends tell others to “meet me at Fish Heads.”

For Fish Heads, our Mission is simple… connect our friends with our shared passions.

Meet the Fish Heads Family

Heather Kane.  Owner.  A behind the scenes leader, visionary, and Momma Bear for the Fish Heads family.  Heather is Regional Director of Operations for Licensed Stores at Starbucks, and as a fifteen year partner with them she exemplifies dedication, commitment, and team building.  She is a self-driven leader who motivates and encourages all those around her to achieve their personal best.  Unafraid of taking a stand and willing to go against the crowd to achieve results, while standing up for what is right… Heather is best described as a Servant Leader in the humblest of definitions.  While not active in the day-to-day operations at Fish Heads, Heather’s vision, leadership, and commitment to connecting our friends with our shared passion resonates throughout the Fish Heads family.

Heather spent her formative years in the Florida Keys, moving to Stuart, FL with her family towards the end of elementary school. Fishing and boating were an integral part of her upbringing, and she still enjoys spending time on the water bottom-fishing for Snapper and trolling for Dolphin.

Brent Kane. General Manager. Responsible for the day-to-day management, oversight and direction of Fish Heads.  Outside of a six-month stint right after college, Brent’s professional career has been solely focused around fishing tackle. Looking for a summer job while in college, Brent found a tackle store on Long Beach Island, NJ that was hiring. Little did he, or the owner of that tackle shop know that this summer job would change Brent’s life and professional focus. After three summers and far too many hours each week working at the tackle shop while still in school, Brent graduated college and made the “grown-up” decision to work in his “field”. Six months later, Brent called the tackle shop owner and asked him to make room for him as a full-time employee. He found his calling and knew the tackle shop was his new home.

Fast forward eight years, Brent had an opportunity to join the new owners and management team at Penn Reels trying to rebuild the brand. Long story short, Penn was successfully rebuilt and the company sold… twice in six months. Brent jumped ship and took a leadership role with Big Rock Sports, an outdoor sporting goods distributor servicing independent stores across the country. Brent stayed with Big Rock for five years in various roles, traveling across the country building relationships with the owners and employees of tackle shops and tackle manufacturers.

Brent and Heather were introduced by a mutual friend while attending a Big Rock Sports Dealer show and quickly became inseparable. Brent and Big Rock Sports parted ways later that year, but his passion and focus brought him full circle, back to a tackle shop… now with the love of his life and their blended family of four kids and two Labradoodles.

On the fishing side of things, Brent has fished extensively throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, and courtesy of his time at Penn and Big Rock, has had opportunities to fish from Alaska down through So. Cal, Texas coastal waters, the Pacific and Atlantic coasts of Mexico, and let’s not forget Florida and the Bahamas. If hard-pressed to pick one fishery, Brent’s passion is targeting pelagic species… the screaming drag and adrenaline rush of a large tuna or billfish pulling off a couple hundred yards of line is tough to beat.

MEET THE FISH HEADS CREW

Benjamin D.
An accomplished outdoor writer, avid angler and with numerous years in retail, Benjamin joined the Fish Heads team in January of 2022.  Benjamin enjoys fishing the beach and inshore/nearshore waters for snook and is well versed with offshore fishing.  Since joining Fish Heads, Benjamin has taken his many years experience in retail and is helping further tweak our merchandising efforts and product assortments.  As the store manager, he’s coaching and further developing our talented staff.

Danny P.
An entrepreneur in his own right, Danny is a lure maker by trade.  He has crafted lures for many different lure makers over the years before creating his own brand, Scylla Lures.  Danny’s lures are stocked by Fish Heads of Stuart, and are often found lodged in the mouths of Wahoo and Dolphin.  Quite an accomplished angler in his own right, Danny enjoys trolling offshore… a lot.  And, if you are in the shop being helped by Danny, don’t worry if you have a question about bait fishing… he knows what a ballyhoo is and will gladly help you.

Jeff M.  Jeffrey is technically Fish Heads Family…. the second eldest of the blended Kane family.  Jeffrey lives for fishing and has proven himself as an accomplished angler.  Whether catching bass on the local golf course ponds, snook in the river, or dolphin “offshores” (family joke), Jeffrey loves it all.  Look for Jeffrey to start taking on more responsibilities at Fish Heads as he continues to learn the ins and outs of the business.

Sage F. Joining Fish Heads back in January, Sage has been under Benjamin’s wing and learning retail’s ins and outs, and becoming quite the merchandiser.   An avid inshore angler, Sage has plans to earn his Captains license and begin chartering the inshore waters.

Dave. O.  One of our longest tenured employees, Dave has been with us practically from the start.  He’s the friendly and helpful type, and will point you in the direction of any hot bites taking place.  Dave also runs a small charter boat, Wharf Rat Charters, putting his clients on fish in the river and near shore waters.

HONORARY FISH HEADS CREW
Raymond “Sonny” W.
Sonny was the first employee of Fish Heads.  He single-handedly almost ran the store into the ground for Heather, but that’s what little brothers do for their Sisters.  Yup… Sonny is family… so we are sort of, kinda stuck with him.   Kidding aside, Sonny was instrumental in the early years of Fish Heads.  His ability to connect with people and make friends helped Fish Heads earn our reputation for being a friendly, helpful shop.  He still makes an occasional appearance at Fish Heads, but typically when he’s going fishing.

Bill W.
It’s any given Friday morning before a beautiful weekend and the shop is almost out of bait.  You are going to need fifty cases of Baitmasters picked up and delivered… who is going to save the day… calling Bill W. … a.k.a. Dad (Heather’s Dad).  Bill has retired twice now from FPL, and pretty sure would go back to work in a heart beat if they called (Bill’s work-ethic is anything but lacking).  We are pretty sure he’s stoked to have a place he can work at whenever he wants to, and he’s always eager to save the day for the Fish Heads family.

Lelani M.
Technically, she’s Fish Heads Family too… the oldest of the blended Kane family.  Fishing isn’t her first passion, yet, but was learning more and more about it each day, really getting into the business operations side of the tackle store.  Taking the knowledge of operating a small business, Lelani left Fish Heads to chase bigger fish…. that bigger fish being a rather large tech company with tons of opportunities for her.   We still see her at home, occasionally, and only around the store around tournament time.

Daniel H.
Daniel joined Fish Heads while still in high school and upon graduating started spending more and more time at the store.  Danny learned the ropes of the tackle industry from the bottom up, and was the Buyer for Fish Heads before leaving for a life-changing opportunity to fish and travel the Caribbean on an incredible boat with a very successful captain.  We wish Danny the best of luck with his future endeavors, and sorry to say we only get to see him from time to time when he’s back from his travels.   Kinda jealous….
