FHOS Weekly Fishing Report 02/05/2021

Florida actually experienced some real winter weather this past week… at least as wintery as anyone cares for in Florida. Temps dropped overnight early in the week into the mid 30’s, and the winds were howling. Fishing was a little quiet the early part of the week… might have been that it was too cold for anyone to want to get out on the water… or maybe the 30-plus MPH winds. Thankfully this is Florida and the weather warmed up later in the week. The weekend will see temps in the lower 80’s, but we will be dealing with rain and possibly Thunderstorms. Its Florida… give it a few hours and weather will change.

Once that wind started falling off, we had a couple of boats venture out Wednesday. They were rewarded with plenty of sailfish action, and quite a few dolphin for the table. Thursday and Friday saw much calmer seas, and with that, many more boats headed out. Dolphin and sailfish were around Thursday, but the bonita were thick… real thick. Expect to burn through quite a few baits to get to the targeted species. Listening to the radio on Friday, sounded like a repeat of Thursday.

Action offshore has been pretty consistent from about 80′ to 150′ SE of the inlet, down to Jupiter inlet.

Spanish are around… think Peck’s Lake… look for the fleet, give the commercial boats plenty of room, and make sure you have a good supply of Glass Minnows. If you aren’t chumming with Glass Minnows, expect those fish to take residence around boats that are putting out a better chunk slick. Flash Minnows, Squid Spoons are the baits of choice for the Spanish.

Snook have been around as well throughout the river. Work structure and you’ll have a shot at them.

Pompano still around Sailfish flats. Sand fleas and Fish Bites should do the trick. Run the channels around the flats, keep an eye out for skipping fish, and you’ll know where your best shot to catch these tasty little devils will be.
